Technical assessment

Power upgrades and electrical installation declarations

Assessment before increasing power or changing the supply system, within the technician’s professional scope.

Before requesting more power

Contracted power limit should not be increased before confirming that the incoming supply, panel and protection can carry the new current. It is also important to establish whether the problem is truly insufficient power or poor load distribution.

Items normally assessed

  • Current and requested power limits, and the maximum permitted supply capacity;
  • Size and condition of the incoming supply;
  • Main switch and electrical panel capacity;
  • Single-phase and three-phase loads;
  • Protection and earthing;
  • Any changes required to the installation.

Single-phase and three-phase changes

The correct choice depends on the loads, installation and power required. Three-phase equipment, load balance and conductor capacity must be considered before requesting a change from the network operator.

Electrical installation declarations

The technician’s declaration (termo de responsabilidade) does not replace a compliant electrical installation. Before it is issued, the work must be known, inspected and appropriately tested.

Professional scope: work and documentation are carried out by a Electrical installation technician registered with DGEG within the technician’s legally permitted professional scope.
